Aural Sex

ImageAural Sex was a podcast about music. It was originally conceived as an excuse for my friend David Fenton and I to blow off our mouths once a week. Originally it wasn't even going to be about music, but then we thought we'd better stick with what we know. We thought that a couple of actual humans talking about music might be refreshing in today's world of recommendation engines such as Amazon, iTunes, LastFM, etc., which only recommend music based on sales or statistics algorithms.

Dave and I did 18 shows until scheduling between timezones (UK and California) became too difficult to manage. I did a few shows on my own until I came to the conclusion that I no longer wanted to talk about music. At the end of the day music is completely intangible, inexplicable and subjective. Pretty hard to talk about unless you're going to wallow in trivia like producers, studios, guest musicians, etc., which we did not do. So I've altered my opinion: Perhaps those recommendation engines are just the right thing after all – they point you in a certain direction where you can listen and make up your own mind. Who wants to hear a couple of old timers flap off their mouths?
